<description>How might we disrupt big tobacco’s menthol attack on African American youth?MenthLab Blitz &#124; Detroit, Michigan

In October 2011, MenthLab united 45 designers, health experts, entertainers, entrepreneurs, and community activists in Detroit for a 5 day Future Blitz of creative immersion designed to address the scourge of menthol cigarettes in urban communities.

&#60;img src="http://payload108.cargocollective.com/1/5/183781/4460660/_2up2_o_1240.jpg" width="1208" height="400" width_o="1208" height_o="400" src_o="http://payload108.cargocollective.com/1/5/183781/4460660/_2up2_o_o.jpg" data-mid="23656863"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload108.cargocollective.com/1/5/183781/4460660/DSC_0125_o_1240.jpg" width="1208" height="803" width_o="1208" height_o="803" src_o="http://payload108.cargocollective.com/1/5/183781/4460660/DSC_0125_o_o.jpg" data-mid="23656865"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Each day resulted in the creation of music, fashion, and games addressing the Blitz challenge of disrupting the tobacco marketing cycle and reaching vulnerable teen markets with the truth about tobacco and menthol. From the Blitz, a portfolio of 14 little bets emerged that could disrupt menthol’s attack on young African Americans.

Sodastream is a wonderful example of an abundant value business, offering an internationally popular home carbonation system which also provides a homemade alternative to single use soda beverages. Each Sodastream system can prevent up to 2,000 bottles and cans a year from entering landfills while giving soda-lovers new and exciting options from the comfort of home. Sodastream’s “Set The Bubbles Free” strategy and global campaign emerged from a 3-day 2012 Future Blitz in Colorado.

The Better World by Design conference unites the best and brightest in industry, academia, engineering, art, innovation, and design to produce solutions for a better and more sustainable world.

Two workshops at the 2012 conference introduced the Future Blitz cycle for accelerating positive change. These workshops evoked an intensive, challenge-specific, place-based experience meant to conceive the inconceivable and rapidly generate and prototype ideas to bring to life. Participants were exposed to techniques for breaking out of their comfort zone, embracing randomness, chance, and wrong answers to come up with unexpected ideas.

In fall 2012, Notre Dame hosted a week-long Future Blitz that challenged design students to imagine ingenious solutions that would break down the bubble between Notre Dame’s campus and South Bend, Indiana. Intensive local immersion and exposure to new techniques and theories of rapid ingenuity resulted in three collaborative ideas that were prototyped and brought to life in South Bend.

<description>What iconic thing might we do to better engage our community in positive change?MICA Blitz &#124; Baltimore, Maryland

SpiceLab emerged from the Maryland Institute College of Art's 2012 Future Blitz, where students and faculty engaged in a 5-day intensive creative immersion experience at MICA Place in Baltimore, Maryland.

To produce ingenious, unique ideas addressing deteriorating relations between college and city, and for those ideas to be rapidly prototyped, improved, and executed through a series of small learning steps.

By thinking wrong, getting stupid, and challenging conventional wisdom about the city, its residents, and the students themselves, four ideas were created, prototyped, and presented to the college. The video above offers an example of one idea that emerged from SpiceLab, entitled re______ .

The Alabamboo Make and Ride campaign, united HEROBike’s bike shop with Alabamboo’s mission to proliferate sustainable bamboo agriculture in Alabama. The 3,000+ mile cross-country bike tour took place on bicycles designed with the help of the Bamboo Bike Studio and constructed from Alabama-grown bamboo in the HERObike workshop.

<description>How might we use the power of brand to drive positive change?COMMON &#124; Boulder, Colorado

Founded in 2011 by Alex and Ana Bogusky, Rob Schuham, and Future’s John Bielenberg, COMMON is a collaborative brand and creative community for accelerating social change. COMMON seeks to revolutionize our economy by replacing competitive advantage with collaborative advantage. It supports, connects and celebrates those designing a new era of socially-minded enterprise.

COMMON particularly invigorates grassroots social enterprise by co-hosting COMMON Pitch, a social innovation competition, in collaboration with cities like New York City, Boulder, Milwaukee, and Cape Town, South Africa. Each COMMON Pitch produces new ideas and products, strengthens local social enterprise and community, and connects that community with the global community of social designers and enterpreneurs.

In June 2012, a team of cyclists, filmmakers, and designers participated in a Future Blitz entitled Future Project Expedition: Iceland. Riding mountain bikes from Höfn to Reykjavik over 300+ miles of Iceland's southern coast, the team utilized the Project M worm’s eye view immersive experience to draw inspiration from the places and people in order to unite design thinking and humanity endeavor. The goal? To identify and advance Icelandic enterprise.

Once in Reykjavik, the team turned that inspiration into the concept of Share Cycle, an international, community-driven, eco-conscious laundromat and business incubator space that fosters conversation and cultural exchange. They shared this idea with locals and travelers in Reykjavik's downtown area. Conversations about the potential of Share Cycle were documented and will be implemented in the prototyping phase of the project.

<description>How might we equip individuals to dedicate their talents to the greater good?Project M &#124; Planet Earth

Project M, brainchild of Future co-founder John Bielenberg, is a program for people inspired to contribute to the greater good and looking for a platform to collaborate on ideas and projects bigger than themselves. Project M is designed to inspire and educate designers, writers, photographers, filmmakers, and entrepreneurs by proving that their work—especially their wrongest thinking—can have a positive and significant impact on the world.
Project M has dedicated talent and ingenuity to support a conservation area in Costa Rica, provide relief to New Orleans after Katrina, enliven the community of East Baltimore, connect households to fresh water in Hale County, Alabama, and address the the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Alabama. Project M has also been the cradle for other powerful ideas to coalesce and accelerate, ideas such as NADA Bike, the Alabamboo Make &#38; Ride, COMMON Hoops, and PieLab that have expanded and grown out of the M network.
